❤️ A Dessert with Romanian Soul
This biscuit salami recipe was one of the first desserts many Romanians learned to make. Traditionally, each person would bring a different ingredient to contribute, and together they'd assemble this delightful roll of goodness. While it’s rarely found in restaurants or pastry shops, it remains a household favorite across Romania. Homemade is truly best when it comes to Salam de Biscuiți. It's easy, no-bake, budget-friendly, and infinitely better than any store-bought version.🍪 What Is Romanian Chocolate Salami?
Also known internationally as chocolate salami, this dessert doesn't require an oven. It’s a simple combination of crushed biscuits bound together with a rich chocolate mixture, typically including cocoa, sugar, butter, milk, and rum essence. Romanians love to jazz it up with raisins, Turkish delight (rahat), chopped walnuts, and sometimes coconut flakes for that extra bit of texture and aroma.💡 Tips & Tricks
- Vegan-Friendly: Use plant-based butter and non-dairy milk. The dessert stays just as creamy and delicious.
- Be Patient: Resist the urge to cut too early! It needs at least two hours in the fridge to firm up.
- Customise It: Swap raisins for cranberries, use hazelnuts instead of walnuts, or add mini marshmallows or dark chocolate chips.
- Add More Rum: Making this for adults only? Use real rum instead of rum essence for a deeper flavor profile.
- Use Coconut for Rolling: It helps prevent sticking and adds a lovely aroma.
Wow, this Salam de Biscuiți recipe looks amazing! I love no-bake desserts, and that ingredient list is so intriguing. I’m definitely going to try this. One question though – could I substitute the walnuts with something else, perhaps pecans or almonds?
