Place cherries in a wide-mouthed glass jar, layering them with sugar (3-5 tbsp per 3-4 cm of fruit).
Pour vodka or brandy over the cherries, ensuring they are fully submerged by at least 1-2 cm.
Seal the jar tightly and store it in a dark, room-temperature place for 30-60 days, shaking every few days to dissolve the sugar.
After the infusion period, strain the liqueur through cheesecloth, remove the cherries, and pour the liquid into bottles.
Store in a cool, dark place. The liqueur is best enjoyed after aging for at least a few weeks!
Alcohol content: 25-30%. Shelf life: up to 3 years.
